What is an Essay?
This is a written document/piece of work that presents an analysis on a particular topic or a focused argument. An essay typically analyzes and interprets information, shares ideas, presents arguments and persuades the reader to adopt a particular view point. It allows the writer showcase their research skills, critical thinking and effective communication. Essays can take various forms such as persuasive, descriptive, argumentative, narrative, expository etc. Specific requirements of an essay vary depending on the subject matter, level of education and the purpose of the essay. Essays are common in academic writing, literature, journalism and personal narratives.
Essays have 3 main parts: An introduction, body and a conclusion. In addition, an essay requires proper citations and references when quoting external sources.
